Family Therapy

When Should You Seek Family Therapy

Often when one or more family members are in a crisis or needing help, the most beneficial action is for all the family to be involved in the counseling.  This is especially true when the children are affected.  Often when someone in the family is troubled in some way it affects the whole family.  By dealing with the problem(s) as a family, those who are in crisis can gain greater benefits because they will be getting help from the whole family and can have a space to express and find new ways of coping for themselves.

My Approach to Family Therapy

Often when someone in a family is dealing with challenges the individual(s) is blamed and made out as wrong or broken in some way.  Other times when it is more of a family issue someone is made into a scapegoat to take the blame for the family's problems.  Each person in the family has some role in either creating or supporting the current problems.  In working with families I take away the blame and shame and help each individual take responsibility for their part of the problem.  I then help the family work together as a unit to help each other overcome their challenges and create a more harmonious family.
